Amira Hassnaoui is a first year Ph.D. student in the Department of World Arts and Culture/Dance at UCLA and is originally from Tunis, Tunisia. She earned her M.A. in Popular Culture from Bowling Green State University in 2017, where she was President of the Graduate Student Senate as well as the Graduate Women’s Caucus. Prior to this, she was a Fulbright Arabic Language Teaching Assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2014-2015. She previously participated in several exchange programs in the United States and Middle East. Her research interests include musicology, folklore, youth activism, feminism, social change, ethnomusicology, and anthropology, focusing especially on Tunisian popular culture.
