The UCLA/CAM Fellowship program was unique to our history of programming. We combined dance artists, educators, and culture workers from Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia with UCLA students in what was a systematic and culturally informed program. The former contributed expertise in their respective discipline and were eager to learn about American methods of arts education for youth, management and creation. By connecting the desire of American students for international contact with the needs of Asian artists to learn about American models, we strengthened our ties and developed a common ground for understanding. In this program, three performing artists from Asia were invited to UCLA's Department of World Arts and Cultures during the 2006 winter quarter. The second residency program sent three Americans individuals one to each of these 3 countries during the 2007 winter quarter. American Fellows were selected for their outstanding history of work in dance, arts administration, and/or work with youth.
UCLA Choreographers/Arts Management (CAM) Fellowship Programs 2006 & 2007 were supported by a grant from the U.S Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of Citizen Exchanges, Cultural Programs Division, Creative Arts Exchanges Program.
